Mozambican woman kidnapped from Elijah Barayi Housing Complex near Carletonville

The suspects demanded a ransom, which the family paid before she was released.

A 29-year-old Mozambican woman was kidnapped from her home in the Elijah Barayi mega housing complex near Carletonville on the evening of Thursday, July 25. According to a reliable source, two unknown Sotho-speaking men forced their way into her residence and abducted her at the start of the weekend.

The shocking incident happened around nightfall, catching neighbours off guard. The suspects broke down the door and threatened the woman before forcing her to go with them. Her sudden disappearance left friends and family members and residents in fear and confusion.

It is understood that after receiving a ransom demand, the woman’s family managed to negotiate with the kidnappers and later paid a ransom for her release.
