Gunmen open fire on driver near East Driefontein, set vehicle alight
The attackers later torched his vehicle.
Police have opened an attempted murder case following a brazen attack near East Driefontein on Sunday evening.
According to authorities, a 39-year-old man was driving his Volkswagen Polo toward the R501 at around 19:00 when a double-cab Toyota GD6 suddenly pulled up. Without warning, six unknown men inside the vehicle opened fire.
In a desperate attempt to escape, the driver lost control of his car, jumped out, and fled across the R501 to the nearby Murray & Roberts training centre, where he found refuge with security guards on duty.
While seeking help, the victim witnessed the suspects setting his vehicle alight before fleeing the scene. Fortunately, he was not injured.
The motive behind the attack is not yet known, and police have launched a full investigation into the matter.
