The Johannesburg Skydiving Club (JSC), located just outside the town, officially reopened on the weekend of July 17 following a closure that began in March. According to the club’s Chief Instructor, Beverley Cosslett, operations had stalled due to multiple challenges, including limited access to suitable aircraft and the lingering effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The club has really been battling since the Covid-19 pandemic. All the staff are volunteers, and the availability of commercial airplanes that can be used for jumps has also become more limited,” Cosslett explained.

Despite these difficulties, JSC has found new momentum with a revitalised committee and now hosts jumps on selected weekends each month. The club is also reintroducing skydiving training courses for beginners and is planning additional events such as training camps.

One of the most exciting offerings is the chance for locals to experience the thrill of skydiving through tandem jumps.

“The experience was breathtaking. I wished I could do it over and over again,” said Mojalefa Ramashi, a Khutsong resident who did his first tandem jump during the reopening weekend.
