Carletonville police lead anti-GBV outreach in Khutsong Ext 5

Led by Sergeant Thabo Mathebula, the initiative included visits to local liquor outlets, safety talks, and the distribution of informative pamphlets to over 250 residents.

Members of the police in Carletonville, along with various colleagues, held a special outreach on October8 in Khutsong Ext 5.

A team of Westrand District Social Crime Prevention and Domestic Violence Coordinators, Carletonville SAPS CPF/Siyabangena and Youth Desk members, together with Onika Mogomotsi of the Department of Community Safety, and Gafi Modise of Westrand District Municipality, visited Ext 5 from 09:30.

“The purpose of the day was to address kidnapping and rape cases. We also provided community members with contact numbers of the police station,” says Carletonville SAPS’s Social Crime Prevention and Domestic Violence Coordinator, Sergeant Thabo Mathebula.

The team visited a liquor store and the Mamchangane tavern to engage with people who were having drinks.

The group advised these residents not to go home alone at night, but rather to go with someone they know and trust.

They also handed out pamphlets with tips warning about gender-based violence (GBV) and substance abuse, and reached approximately 250 residents.
