Huge rubbish dump in Kokosi at Fochville grows into massive eyesore

The heap has expanded so much that it is now spilling into the nearby street and reaching the height of the cemetery’s 2-metre wall.

A huge rubbish dump in Kokosi has been an eyesore for more than a decade. Residents of especially Kokosi Ext 99 have been throwing their rubbish on a heap next to the old Kokosi cemetery for many years.

They complain that they do not have somewhere else to go with the rubbish as it is not removed from the informal housing area by the municipality.

So much rubbish has been dumped at the site that it is again taking up some of the space in the street next to it.

At places the dump is almost as high as the 2m high perimeter wall in front of the graveyard.

“The municipality only comes to clean here before the elections,” residents complained.

Although the Herald asked the Merafong City Local Municipality when the rubbish will be removed, no answers were received by printing time.
