Spartans triumph at African Championships
They are some of the best on the continent.

Spartans Karate dojo, based at the Carletonville Civic Centre, has emerged victorious at the recent UFAK (Union of African Karate Federations) Region South Karate Championships held in Namibia.
According to the club’s public relations officer, Martin Venter, three of the Spartans’ fighters showcased their skill at the MTC Dome Indoor Sporting Complex in Swakopmund from 19 to 23 June.
Competing against top talents from Southern African countries including South Africa, Angola, Botswana, Namibia, Zambia, Mozambique, and Zimbabwe, the Spartans Karate representatives delivered impressive performances.
Aiden Arendse clinched a bronze medal in the kumite (fighting) category for males aged 16 to 17, while Rochelle Seitz secured another bronze in the U14 female division.
Lerato Mohohlo also demonstrated commendable skill, finishing fifth in the kumite competition for females U14. Their coach, Sensei Enzo Pillay, expressed pride in his students, emphasising the dojo’s commitment to producing world-class athletes.
“The Spartans Dojo cultivates individuals capable of rivalling any global competitor,” he affirmed.
“These athletes not only represented South Africa and earned their Protea colours, opening up many opportunities for themselves.
“They also represented and showcased the potential within the Merafong area on an international platform,” Pillay added.
Motivated by their achievements, the athletes voiced their determination to pursue further success on the global stage.
“We are confident that more gold medals are within our reach. Watch out for us and our teammates; we are here to stay,” the young stars said proudly.
