Young soccer and netball players from the area will be able to showcase their skills as part of the annual Mayoral Games this weekend.

The third annual Mayoral Games was launched with an official function at the Carletonville Tennis Courts last Saturday.

According to the Merafong City Local Municipality, the tournament originated in 2022 with the aim to develop youth sports in the municipal area. Competition also helps to develop physical fitness, promote a healthy lifestyle through sport activities and keep young people away from the streets, drugs and criminal doings.

This weekend’s soccer and netball action will kick off on July 13 and will continue until Sunday. The semi-finals and finals are scheduled to take place at Sibanye-Stillwater’s Masizakhele Sportgrounds on July 20.
Various games will take place this weekend.

Action at the Mafunda Ground in Fochville will start at 09:00 when Sunrise FC and Galaxy FC will clash. Kokosi Stars FC will play Holly Stars FC at 10:30, while White City FC will come up against Red Bull FC at 12:00.

In matches at the Greater Carletonville and Blybank Grounds, Young Lions FC and Early Birds FC will clash at 09:00. In the second game Chelsea West will play against Vultures FC at10:30, while Sibanye Driefontein and Vulavala United FC will come up against each other at 12:00. Eleven Experience FC will be on standby.

Matches will also be played at the Spades Ground in Khutsong.
Blackpool FC will come up against ISG Gunners FC at 09:00, while Millenium FC will play against Bashilano FC at 10:30. Ditlou FC will face Mighty Killers FC at 12:00. Avengers FC will be on standby.

More matches will be played at the Wedela Freedom Square grounds. The day’s action will kick off with a match between SAB Wedela Future Stars and Blackpool FC at 09:00, while Blyvoor Evergreen will play against Makwero FC at 10:30. LFA Wedela Future Stars FC will clash with Mantshiwa FC at 12:00.
