Facelifted Audi RS 5 Sportback and Coupé spawn fresh new look, same engine

The RS 5 Sportback and Coupe models are likely to reach our shores in 2021.

The German car marque has unveiled its refreshed Audi RS 5 Coupé and Sportback models that pack a more aggressive exterior design and fresh new tech.

Likely to reach our shores before the end of 2020, or early 2021, the facelifted Audi RS 5 models follow the same design element that is worn by the new RS 6 Avant and the RS 7.

They come fitted with a single frame grille that is wider and flatter than the outgoing models’.

Audi says the new RS 5’s wheel arches have been widened by 15mm compared to the A5 and S5 models. Like the current-gen RS 5, the refreshed model boasts two large oval RS exhaust pipes as well as an RS-specific diffuser.

The RS 5 Coupé and RS 5 Sportback models come standard with Matrix-design LED headlights with Audi laser light, and LED taillights with dynamic turn signals and animation.

According to Audi, the standard LED lighting plus package on both the Coupé and Sportback offers more than 30 different colour combinations for greater customisation of the interior.

Inside, there are standard honeycomb stitched S sport seats with RS embossing which include power side bolsters and massage function. They are covered in fine Nappa leather. There is also the centre console and door armrests.

Offered as standard are heated rear seats. The 10.1-inch touchscreen features an all-new MIB 3 infotainment system and comes standard with wireless Apple CarPlay™ and Google™ Android Auto integration via a USB connection.

An optional head-up display can be had at an additional charge. Power comes courtesy of a 2.9-litre V6 TFSI bi-turbo engine which gushes out an unchanged 331 kW of power and 599 Nm of torque to all four wheels via Audi’s Quattro system.

All that amount of oomph is accessed via an eight-speed Tiptronic transmission.

A sprint from a standstill to 96 km/h is achieved in 3.7 seconds for the Coupé and 3.8 seconds for the Sportback. Both models accelerate all the way to a top speed of 250km/h.

The two RS models are standard equipped with fixed RS sport suspension.

We expect the refreshed Audi RS 5 duo to launch before the end of the year or early 2021.
