Transform your child’s old t-shirt into something new

Don’t throw your child’s old t-shirt away. Today we show you how to remodel your child’s old tee into something new and fabulous!

Old t-shirts can be made new again with a few DIY tricks. Here’s how you can save some money and get creative with t-shirts. Best of all, your child will enjoy helping you with this fun Saturday activity.

How to tie dye shirts

If your child’s old white shirt is looking a little worse for wear, turn to tie dye! This video tutorial will show you how:

Patches or badges that can be ironed on

Badges or fabric patches can be easily ironed or pinned on clothing and they’re great for covering up holes. This is the easiest way to reinvent an old tee. There are so many badges specifically for kids, from hearts and rockets to flowers and stars.

Top tip: Ironed on patches usually stays on for about 25 washes and work best with materials like cotton and polyester.

Tiny little bows and colourful ribbons

Here’s a super cute way to reinvent your child’s tee: Attach little bows down the back of their t-shirt. You should be able to find these at any arts and crafts store at an affordable price. Alternate different colour bows and let your child wear this new tee with their favourite pair of jeans. You can also sew some ribbon on your child’s tees for a new look.

Attach a collar

Stores that sell materials and fabrics usually have pieces like collars as well. You can attach a collar to your child’s tee to create the cutest new shirt.

Get creative with safety pins

Write a cool slogan on a plain tee using safety pins. Not only will this look totally rock ‘n roll but you can change the slogan or use different colours and sizes of safety pins, reinventing your child’s t-shirt every time they wear it.

Make a crop top

The easiest way to rework a t-shirt that is too short for your child but still fits around the chest and shoulders is by turning it into a crop top. You can cut and sew your child’s t-shirt.
