Rotax Max Regional lights up iDube

Upcountry visitor Diego Antunes took a Bambino with a clean sweep over local lad Kayden Pistauer. Richard Horner also took a clean sweep to beat Peter John Garbutt and Allan Johnston to a tight Max Masters win.

The second round of KwaZulu-Natal’s Rotax Max Regional karting championship delivered a great day of racing in a typical family atmosphere at iDube on Sunday March 5.

Masters winner Jonathan Pieterse pushed overall DD2 victor Brent Walden hard enough to steal an inspired overall final race win as Brent took the day from Jono.

It was even closer for third, as Nick Wuite, Riley Horner and Masters runner-up Shane Foley ended on the same points for the day after a great fight on track.

But it was Wuite who stood on the podium in the end. Bev van Heerden ended third in Masters from Richard van Heerde and Alistair Mingay, who had a race 2 off, but managed to fend Chris Grobbelaar off for fifth.

Senior and Junior Max raced together to deliver some thrilling interclass action. Troy Snyman dominated Senior from Yifan Li, who fended Jack Rowe and Juandre Nel off by a point overall after some great racing.

Uzair Khan appeared to have the high school day sewn up. Until an altercation with a Senior dropped him to second behind Dhyvien Naidoo. Impressive Dylan Watkins capitalised on Maahir Wahab and Jonno Wilson’s crashes for third from Wahab, Skyler Nienaber and Travis Yeld. Wilson took a rain check after his massive flip brought the red flag out in race 2.

In the primary school Max action, Travis Mingay dominated Mini as he left Harry Rowe and Kyle Spies to fight it out until Spies pitted a lap early in Race 3 to push him to the back. A tough lesson he will surely learn from!
That allowed Rayn Asmal onto the third podium step ahead of Troy Pieterse and poor Kyle.

The only Micro lad, Ryan Falconer, spent the day mixing it with the Mini Max kids.

The 4 Stroke Sprints proved the dice of the day among a big field. The lead continuously changed between the top three, as Andrew and Kyle Nivison and Peter John Garbutt fought tooth and nail for the honour of the top step of the podium.

Kyle stole the race 1 win from dad Andrew Nivison before the old man fought back to win the next two.
Rotax Max Regional action moves to a double header with Gauteng second round action at Formula K and WP round 2 at Killarney this Saturday 12 March.

The next KZN round is on 24 April, a week before the opening round Rotax Max National at Killarney in Cape Town 29-30 April.
