A man from Madala Site in the Carletonville area recently received a stiff sentence for murdering his girlfriend.

Sibusiso Kota appeared in the Palm Ridge High Court on 12 October.

He was found guilty on charges of murder and defeating the ends of justice. Kota received a 20-year sentence on the murder charge and was sentenced to another five years imprisonment for trying to defeat the ends of justice.

Kota was arrested in August 2021 after murdering his girlfriend in his car after an argument. He dumped her body on a gravel road near the Elijah Barayi housing project and reported her missing at the Carletonville Police Station the following morning.

Luckily, an alert police member on duty in the charge office at the time saw that something seemed amiss and called in the help of two detectives, WO Jacques Nagel and Const. Thabo Kharejane.

Kota later confessed to what had happened and was arrested on the spot.
