Police in Wedela reaches out to schools
Authorities are working together to fight crime in Wedela.

The police in Wedela conducted another community outreach to try to curb crime.
On March 7 the Station Commander, Captain Wayne Pestana, met with the principals of all three schools in the town, as well as all three ward councillors.
According to Wedela Police’s social crime officer Sergeant Zikhona Sifuba, the purpose of the meeting was to discuss the crime happening around schools.
“Our children are always fighting and bringing drugs to school. There are also trees and long grass on the routes where children have to pass when going to school.”
Sifuba added that everyone promised to help curb the problems.
The station commander promised more patrols and visibility around the schools. He also promised more school talks and searches of learners, while the councillors committed to help with the cutting of grass and trees.
“The principals were pleased and glad that they had finally met with the station commander,” Sifuba added.
On the same day the station commander, Sifuba, Onica Mogomotsi from community safety, and members of the Wedela Youth Desk visited Wedela Primary School. They searched the learners in all the grade seven classes but found nothing illegal.
A total of 125 learners were searched and the acting principal thanked the police for the outreach.
