Another successful Carletonville Half-Marathon

The Carletonville Half-Marathon took place at the sports complex in Carletonville for the third consecutive year on Sunday, March 20.

The Carletonville Half-Marathon took place at the sports complex in Carletonville for the third consecutive year on Sunday, March 20. The race, which started at 06:30, saw runners take on either the 5 km fun race, the 10 km or the 21 km half-marathon and making their way into Onyx, Dolomite, Kaolin and Tugela streets before heading back for the finish at 09:30. The participants ranged from nine years of age to 70 years old and came from the Merafong area and as far as Randburg, Klerksdorp and the Vaal. According to the organiser, Musa Zulu, the event was open to all members of the community. After the race, David Nkakane from Khutsong Township was awarded as the winner of the 21 km men’s race and Cornelia Joubert from Randfontein for being the first woman at the finish of the same distance. The winner of the 10 km men’s race was Folavio Daniel and Thandi Sehotle won the women’s 10 km. Zulu expressed his gratitude to Sibanye Gold for the role they played in making the event possible and thanked Gladiator Security Services for patrolling as well as keeping medical control during the race. The organiser is looking to make the race even bigger and better next year and is extending his invitation to local businesses and organisations.
