The i3 is the Bavarian premium automaker’s first attempt at an all-electric production car. With an all-electric version as well as the REx or ‘Range Extender’ version which employs a small 650cc 28kW two-cylinder internal combustion engine that charges the electric battery pack and allows for a longer driving range. The all-electric version will achieve between 130-160km on a single charge, while the REx version get a claimed 240km range.

The vehicle is made from carbon fibre-reinforced plastic, aluminium and recycled materials. That makes the i3 a car for the modern era. It is also no slouch in the performance stakes, with a 0-100km/h time of 7.2 seconds. The i3 has already cemented itself as one of the best-selling electric cars of all time, with close to 70 000 units being sold worldwide since its global launch in 2014.
