Bassonia couple pay it forward

Deon and Jeanice Pillay say they have been so blessed in life, that it motivates their mission to lend a helping hand to those battling to survive their circumstances.

JOHANNESBURG SOUTH – A recently wed couple from Bassonia has been making a difference in people’s lives through community outreach initiatives and helping underprivileged families with basic essentials.

Deon and Jeanice Pillay say they have been so blessed in life, that it motivates their mission to lend a helping hand to those battling to survive their circumstances.

“I believe that Jesus has blessed me with a mercy motivated heart and therefore I am so compassionate towards the underprivileged. I have been on many mission trips to Plettenberg Bay, Zimbabwe and Swaziland to help in the underprivileged areas and to educate children. Deon sponsors many charities and helps as many organisations as he can,” explained Jeanice.

The couple own a business in Mondeor and also recently opened the doors to their own non profit organisation (NPO), the Rebecca Pillay Foundation, in honour of Deon’s late mother.

“I research and speak to many people who need help or who know of someone who needs help. We believe that we need to be the hands and feet of the kingdom of God. To whom much is given, much is expected. The more we are blessed, the more we want to bless others. I believe that Jesus has instilled a special calling in our lives to help the people in need,” added Jeanice.

The underprivileged people who have been fortunate enough to receive assistance from the Pillay’s are not only from the South.

“If I find out that there is a need elsewhere I will research the situation thoroughly before assisting them. We are not constrained to one particular area. Many of the donations that I do are basic essentials such as food and toiletries. I try to help people who need to get by, day by day.”
