A cut above the rest

The staff members make these blankets in their free time or on their quiet days at the salon. They distribute the items to shelters, orphanages, the homeless and others in need.

WITH winter fast approaching, one generous salon in Glenanda, A Cut Above, has started a unique initiative whereby the staff makes blankets, rugs and/or mats out of old tags and clothes.

It has been a month into the initiative and the team of about five staff members have made over 15 blankets thus far. They make these blankets in their free time or on their quiet days at the salon.

They distribute the items to shelters, orphanages, the homeless and others in need.

COLLECTING: A Cut Above is collecting old clothes and rags which they will use to make blankets, mats or rugs.

The idea started off when they decided to crochet a mat out of old rags and it snowballed into this great initiative. The team collects old rags from car washes and now even buys scraps of material.

“Some of the clothes brought in by clients were in good condition, so we could not cut them up. We chose to give them to people who can actually use them, and we also buy material or fabric to make these blankets,” said Candice Osborne, owner at A Cut Above.

You are welcome to donate to this cause by taking your old clothes, cloths, rags, material and fabric to 102 Vorster Avenue in Glenanda.
