Following the recent cash-in-transit heists around Johannesburg, the CHRONICLE took to the streets to find out what people would do if they were one of the CIT vehicle drivers considering the dangers they are exposed to on a daily basis.

THABO NKOBA: “I can’t imagine being a driver of one of those vehicles. It’s terrifying. There should be better ways to transport that money. I know it may seem crazy but they could even use helicopters and drop the money outside the bank.”
KAGISO SERMANE: “Being a driver for one of those vehicles is a real life-threatening situation and I believe structures should be put in place to ensure that those drivers are not constantly exposed to danger. We need order in that sector.”
MARIUS DU TOIT: “I think being a driver for one of those cash-in-transit vehicles is the scariest thing imaginable. I would obviously want an escort with armed response in case anything happens on the road. I don’t see the logic in having drivers move around alone. It’s dangerous.”
SIFISO NHLAPO: “Cash-in-transit heists are scary and being a driver, I can imagine what would be going through my mind. My life is very important to me and if attacked I would easily surrender the vehicle and money. I wouldn’t want to agitate the robbers. They are merciless.”
