Ten years in jail for possession of unlicensed firearm

A suspect was found guilty of possession of an unlicensed firearm and sentenced to 10 years in prison.

On August 30 in 2019 at about 20:15, members from Booysens Crime Prevention raided premises in Eloff Street in Turffontein.

One of the members searched the room and then searched the suspect and found a firearm. The suspect could not produce a firearm licence.

The suspect was detained for being in possession of the firearm.

Booysens SAPS communications officer Capt Lorraine van Emmerik said the docket was handed to Sgt Ntsako Mabunda to investigate.

The docket went to court and the following conviction was handed down: count one 10 years’ direct imprisonment and count two two years or R4 000 fine. He was declared unfit to possess a firearm.

“The management of Booysens would like to thanks Mabunda in his dedication in obtaining a guilty conviction,” she said.
