Illegal dumping an eyesore for Brackenhurst resident
Brackenhurst’s Bhongo Ngqukuvana has since issued a stringent notice to culprits illegally dumping rubbish outside his property.
Bhongo Ngqukuvana, who resides in Delphinium Street, is at his wits’ end after picking up garbage outside his property each morning for months now due to illegal dumping.
For at least two months, he has been monitoring what he describes as a ‘careless and unacceptable behaviour’ of rubbish bags being dumped.
Out of frustration and having to be involved in several quarrels with offenders, he has since put up a notice outside his property warning that culprits will be brought to book.
Just recently, Ngqukuvana said his family decided to intensify the awareness by contacting the City of Ekurhuleni’s waste department.
“The first step was that we contacted our armed response, Fourth Dimension Security Services, to use the outside cameras to identify these culprits and that process is still ongoing. At the same time, this is to avoid unnecessary confrontations and tensions among residents,” he said.
EMPD spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Kelebogile Thepa said they take illegal dumping very seriously in any area.
“On November 8, the place in question was visited by the EMPD Alberton precinct officers and on arrival, the waste was removed already. “However, three permanently placed recycling bins were noticed right opposite the complainant’s premises so we assume that could also be a contributing factor for waste to be dumped there.
“At times, we don’t seem to catch the culprits red-handed but we request members of the public to call our service call centre number on 086 054 3000 as soon as they spot an illegal dumping activity,” she said.
Thepa also assured they will keep on monitoring the area.
