Various city’s departments honours transport month in Jackson informal settlement
October is Transport Month. This month, the Department of Transportation and its affiliates present their transport infrastructure services in the areas of highways, public transit, aviation, and maritime transportation. Jackson informal settlement residents and various stakeholders from the City of Johannesburg used it to further advance the country’s road safety initiatives.

Gauteng Department of Community Safety recently held a road safety awareness by honouring Transport Month.
The campaign was recently held on the R82 freeway next to the Jackson informal settlement.
The campaign aimed to participate in Transport Month by recognising early childhood developments (ECD). The ECD helps to shape and equip future leaders.
According to the community road safety counsellor, Njabulo Phakathi, they were honoured to have taken part in sharing knowledge with the community at large.

“Living in the outskirts of Jackson we saw the need to equip our people, especially the young ones. It is important to teach them how they can also play their part on the roads and be responsible for themselves,” said Njabulo.
Various departments played a part in ensuring that the day was a success.
Njabulo thanked every individual for taking their time and being part of this initiative.
