A coordinated multi-agency operation resulted in significant enforcement action during a targeted blitz on liquor outlets across Wards 56 and 57.

The operation was led by the City of Johannesburg, in partnership with Moffat View SAPS, JMPD and Citizen Relationship and Urban Management (CRUM) Region F.

The night operation started at 18:00 on April 10 and focused on known entertainment hotspots in La Rochelle, Regents Park, and Rosettenville, where authorities inspected a total of seven liquor outlets to ensure compliance with municipal by-laws, health regulations and licensing requirements.

Environmental Health practitioners played a key role in the operation, issuing 18 notices to establishments found to be in violation of various regulations. These included six statutory notices, five stakeholder notices, and seven related to food handling and entertainment compliance.

JMPD officers also took decisive action, issuing 11 notices during the operation. This included one vehicle impoundment and 10 citations, of which three are linked to expired or missing license discs and seven for road obstructions.

Authorities noted that illegal parking and obstruction of public roads remain persistent challenges around nightlife venues.

Meanwhile, Moffat View SAPS officers intensified efforts to clamp down on unlawful liquor trading. Five liquor licenses or renewal documents were confiscated, and five outlets were shut down for non-compliance.

Police indicated that operating without valid documentation or in violation of licensing conditions would not be tolerated.

City officials described the operation as part of an ongoing campaign to restore order, enforce compliance, and improve safety in Johannesburg’s communities.

Residents in the affected areas have previously raised concerns about noise, crime, and unregulated business practices linked to some nightlife establishments.

“This joint operation demonstrates our commitment to upholding the law and ensuring that all businesses operate within the required legal framework,” a City representative said. “We will continue to conduct similar operations to protect residents and ensure safer environments.”

Authorities confirmed that follow-up inspections and enforcement actions will continue in the coming weeks as part of broader efforts to maintain compliance and accountability across the city’s entertainment sector.
