Multi-disciplinary approach helps enforce by-laws

Clr Matsobane Sekhu says although there are limited recourses, he will continue using what is at his disposal.

Clr Matsobane Sekhu’s efforts in conducting the by-law management operation in Ward 125 continue.

He said ensuring businesses comply with regulations to safeguard public health and safety is crucial.

“The multi-disciplinary approach involving various departments such as the JMPD, Health, the EMS, Development Planning, Joburg Water, and City Power addresses various compliance aspects effectively.

“Identifying and closing spaza shops with multiple infringements demonstrates a commitment to enforcing regulations. Selling illicit goods and expired products poses significant risks to consumers, and taking action against such practices is essential. The observation of businesses removing expiry dates underscores the need for vigilant enforcement to protect consumers from potential harm,” he said.

While resource limitations may pose challenges, Sekhu’s determination to maximise available resources for these operations reflects a proactive approach to community safety. Increasing the frequency of these operations could help address non-compliance more effectively and send a strong message to businesses about the importance of adhering to regulations.

“Overall, my dedication is to ensure compliance with the municipal by-laws and regulations because it is crucial for maintaining the well-being of the Ward 125 community,” noted Sekhu.
