Glenvista, Mulbarton roads crumble as sinkholes and potholes create safety crisis
Frustrated residents call for urgent action as deteriorating roads pose hazards, block driveways, and damage vehicles.

The streets of Glenvista and Mulbarton have become a minefield of sinkholes and potholes, leaving residents frustrated and concerned for their safety.
The problem is now a crisis, with roads closed and seemingly abandoned. The stagnating water in the sinkholes is a health hazard, attracting mosquitoes and other insects, and the potholes damage vehicles, leading to costly repairs for motorists.
Inaam Yousufjee, an Allen Road resident in Mulbarton, outlined the dangers and inconveniences of the sinkhole on Allen Road.

“My kids can’t ride their bicycles on the road because they might fall into the massive sinkhole. My whole driveway is blocked. It is very dangerous and inconvenient,” said Yousufjee.
“The JRA or municipality must give this issue immediate attention,” he continued.
The Johannesburg Road Agency (JRA) is responsible for maintaining the city’s roads, but residents feel that not enough is being done to address the problem.

JRA spokesperson Bertha Peters-Scheepers said this in a media statement.
“The JRA is aware of the road issues in Mulbarton in the south of Johannesburg and will deploy an investigation team to evaluate the extent of the problem. Then we will send out teams to repair the damage,” she said.
Residents are calling for urgent action to repair the roads and restore safety and normality to their neighbourhoods.

They urge the JRA to evaluate and repair the potholes immediately, or the situation will only worsen.
Residents demand the JRA maintain the city’s infrastructure and ensure the roads are safe and accessible for all users.
