Glenvista explorers bring history and geography to life on Cape Town expedition
Trinityhouse Glenvista concluded a five-day expedition in Cape Town and returned home with a deeper understanding of SA and the world.
Young explorers from Trinityhouse Glenvista recently concluded an unforgettable five-day history and geography expedition in Cape Town with Expedition Edu (a programme offering learners educational expeditions).
The expedition was about stepping into history, engaging with local stories and seeing the connection between people, places and time.

From the stories of District Six to the first-hand account of resilience on Robben Island, the explorers walked in the footsteps of those who shaped SA history.

They didn’t just learn about the past but felt it through the voices of those who lived it, too. Through the vibrant streets of Bo-Kaap’s colourful facades, they heard stories of cultural fusion and resilience. The walls of the Castle of Good Hope, SA’s oldest colonial building, echoed the past, revealing tales of exploration and conquest.
Geography also came alive when they stood atop the majestic Table Mountain, taking in the panoramic view of Cape Town. Tracing the rugged coastline at Cape Point, they realised the powerful natural forces that shaped the land.

The learners embraced the spirit of exploring when they trekked through mountains and forests, the scent of fynbos filling the air, uncovering the rich tapestry of the stories woven into the land.
The coastline became a playground and a classroom when they had some fun. In Hout Bay, the learners surfed and played beach games while delving into lessons on conservation, understanding the delicate balance of marine ecosystems and recognising the importance of protecting our oceans for future generations.

They then visited the V&A Waterfront, where their teamwork and problem-solving skills were put to the test.
Armed with maps and clues, teams navigated the historical landmark, uncovering the iconic location’s hidden gems.
This expedition seamlessly wove together adventure, education and leadership development through every experience. The explorers developed confidence, leadership and a deeper understanding of SA and the world.
