WATCH: South Awakens NPO and Shoprite feed 400 residents in Moffat View and Springbok

Volunteers call for equipment and support to keep community feeding project running.

South Awakens NPO, working with Shoprite, distributed over 400 cups of soup and bread to residents of Moffat View and Springbok in an outreach drive on May 12.

The drive aimed to ease hunger in the area and provided immediate relief to families in communities where unemployment is widespread, and many residents struggle to secure daily meals.

The community’s response was overwhelming, but more support is needed to make the initiative sustainable.

South Awakens NPO lacks the equipment and resources to sustain the project.

The organisation is appealing for donations of gas stoves, pots, utensils, and other supplies to help consistently prepare and serve meals.

“Unfortunately, NPO’s don’t get the recognition and assistance that we require,” said Lanchia Jasson, the founder and director of South Awakens. “Our community really struggles as the majority are unemployed. Substance abuse is also rife, and our children are turning to gangsterism. All assistance will be highly appreciated.”

The group hopes increased public and corporate support will allow it to expand the feeding programme and provide more consistent aid to vulnerable residents in Moffat View, Springbok, and surrounding areas.
