WATCH: Man rescued after trapped in Winchester Hills stormwater drain for 2 days

Fidelity ADT, Mondeor CPF and SAPS rescue man trapped in sealed drain as concerns grow over possible criminal use of stormwater systems.

A man was safely rescued from a stormwater drain on Maluti Street in Winchester Hills on May 20, after being trapped inside for about two days.

Fidelity ADT and Mondeor CPF Sector 2 members responded to the incident and, with the assistance of a resident and SAPS members, managed to extract the individual from the drain.

The man was unable to provide a satisfactory explanation for his presence.

Following the rescue, he was handed over to SAPS for further investigation, and he received medical attention to assess his health and well-being.

The incident has raised serious concerns about the potential misuse of stormwater systems.

“The gentleman could not give us a clear explanation as to why he found himself in a sealed stormwater drain. It was also difficult to open the drain cover, which was welded shut for some reason. Luckily, we could get him out safe,” he continued.
