Mini cricketers play against heroes

Protea players

MEMBERS of the Mini-cricket team were awarded the chance to take on their heroes when the official KFC Mini-Cricket tour was launched.

KFC Mini-Cricket Kids took on the Proteas in an exciting match played on Sunday September 8 at Montecasino at Fourways. The Proteas managed a narrow win by 15 runs scoring 52 runs in their allotted eight overs while KFC team made 37 runs.

“This was the most fun I ever had playing against these up-and-coming youngsters. They know how to play cricket and this is what we need, a feeding system to develop our cricket in the country,” said Proteas ODI captain AB de Villiers. De Villiers started his cricketing career as a mini-cricket player.

“This is hugely exciting for the KFC Mini-Cricket Kids to play against the Proteas and it is fantastic to see how the senior players interacted with them,” said Lezanne Bartlett, Marketing Director KFC South Africa. “This was a lifetime experience for them. We encourage every child to take up the sport through KFC Mini-Cricket and become part of it. There is an opportunity for everyone to get involved and that is our main aim and objective.”

This also marks the start of the eight matches KFC Mini-Cricket Kids tour vs Proteas. Matches will either take place at parks, shopping centres or schools with the aim of attracting as many supporters as possible.

Seven winners will be selected through a USSD competition mechanism where entrants dial*120*7535# to enter. A lucky draw will be held for each region after the competition closes on October 8 where the lucky winners and their KFC Mini-Cricket team, will then play a game against the Proteas. Seven winners will be selected from Johannesburg, Pretoria, Durban, Cape Town, Port Elizabeth, East London and Bloemfontein.

The KFC Mini-Cricket Kids vs Proteas Tour is just another way that kids will get a chance to get active. Together with other opportunities in the KFC T20 International Series and Ram Slam T20 Challenge this summer, KFC Mini-Cricket kids will also be encouraged to get their friends to get active.
