Historic premier league brings fast-paced bowls to Johannesburg South
Come enjoy thrilling bowls action, a festive market, live entertainment and fun for the whole family.
South African lawn bowls will reach a new milestone with the launch of the inaugural Henselite Premier League, inspired by the highly successful Australian Bowls Premier League (BPL).
The tournament will take place from December 5 to 7 at Ridge Park Sports Club in Towerby, Johannesburg South, and promises three days of top-class sporting action.
For the first time in South Africa, more than 70 elite teams will compete in the fast-paced format that has transformed the international bowls scene.
Among the well-known players entered are Colleen Picketh, Wayne Rittmuller, and Jason Evans, along with current and former Proteas, international competitors from neighbouring countries, district and ex-district players, and strong non-district contenders.
Spectators can look forward to high-energy matches featuring many of the country’s finest bowlers.
A prize pool of R120 000 is on offer, with R60 000 going to the winning team. The event is supported by sponsors including Tshepang Electrical, City Lighting, Hennie Alberts Storage and Delport Gearbox.
Visitors can also enjoy a festive Christmas market, a kiddies’ area, and live entertainment throughout the weekend. The atmosphere will be shared with wider audiences through live broadcasts by 91.9 FM, complete with an outside broadcast van on site.
The Henselite Premier League is not only a sporting highlight but also a celebration of community spirit.
“We are proud to support Living Waters of Hope, an impactful initiative personally managed by Megan Yorke,” said Michelle Greig, managing director of Greig Events. “The charity provides vital assistance to victims of gender-based violence in Johannesburg South. Under Megan’s leadership, the organisation has recently secured a block of flats to offer safe, refurbished accommodation. A significant portion of the tournament proceeds will go directly towards this important work.”
Greig added that Peter Muller’s continued investment in the club and the local community is creating meaningful opportunities for residents and strengthening the event’s legacy beyond the greens.
Event times are as follows:
Friday: 15:00 – 20:00
Saturday: 08:15 – 19:15
Sunday: 08:15 – 15:00
