WATCH: Calvary Christian College hosts vibrant and successful sports day

Learners participated enthusiastically in a day that celebrated athletic ability and teamwork.

Learners, teachers and parents gathered in high spirits as Calvary Christian College recently hosted its much-anticipated annual Sports Day, an event that celebrated athletic talent and school spirit.

The event took place at Hoërskool President High School’s grounds and learners proudly represented their respective houses, namely Gazelles, Lions and Eagles, each dressed in their team colours.

The house system added a spirited competitive edge to the day, with teams rallying behind their athletes and showcasing high-energy war cries they had carefully prepared in advance to motivate and cheer on their fellow learners.

Learners participated wholeheartedly in a range of track and field events, including sprinting races, long jump, and shot put. The young athletes demonstrated determination and sportsmanship throughout the competitions, drawing loud applause and encouragement from spectators.

Parents also turned out in large numbers to support their children, joining teachers in cheering from the sidelines.
Teachers played an active role in organising the day’s activities and ensuring that each event ran smoothly, and their encouragement further inspired learners to give their best on the field.

Beyond the excitement of competition, the sports day highlighted the vital role that sport plays in education.

Participation in sport is essential for the holistic development of learners, fostering physical health, mental sharpness, and valuable life skills such as teamwork, discipline, and resilience.

Learners assist with music during the event to keep the day lively.

The event had been a resounding success. Not only did it showcase the impressive talents of the learners, but it also reinforced the importance of sport in building character and strengthening school spirit.
