How green was our valley

The situation is getting worse with no action being taken to protect this valuable "Jewel of the South."

I would like to add my comments and concerns following your article on Vagrants move in, Comaro CHRONICLE, page 3, September 11.

About a year ago we purchased a house in Glenvista ext 5, with a beautiful view overlooking the the Glen Shopping Centre and the natural koppie on the east side bordering the Glenvista Golf course and country club.

Over the past year I have watched the once beautiful koppie with natural highveld grass and indigenous trees being destroyed by vagrants and informal rubbish recyclers. The once beautiful koppie now represents an emerging, developing squatter camp, with burnt veld, trees, rubbish, and trampled pathways being the order of the day.

The situation is getting worse with no action being taken to protect this valuable “Jewel of the South.”

If something is not done to protect the area the “cancer” will continue to spread and eventually the entire area will be completely destroyed and overrun with squatters, vagrants. We as a community, both business, residential home owners and other interested parties must protect our natural assets, property values and standards.

If we chose to do nothing, the effect will be measured in months and years to come, just look to the once sustainable, vibrant deep South as an example of things to come.
