After four years, the maestro Adnan Sami is returning to South Africa for a much-anticipated concert. Labelled as one of the fastest keyboard players in the world, the internationally renowned singer, musician, music composer and actor will return to the stage for an unforgettable evening at Emperors Palace on March 26.
Tickets are from R280 a person. Bookings are already open at Computicket online and outlet stores.
Audiences are in for a treat once again as he performs a collection of his Bollywood blockbusters, including, Kabhi To Nazar Milao, Bhardo Jholi Meri and Lift Karaa De.
Apart from being the first person in musical history to play Indian classical music on the piano in a style he pioneered and created through the Santoor (a unique Indian instrument), he can also play over 35 musical instruments, including the guitar, accordion, saxophone, sitar and violin.
Having been born and grown up in the UK, he has successfully merged Asian and Western music styles and instruments. While he has a bachelor’s degree in journalism and political science and an LLB, music was his ultimate calling. He started playing the piano at the age of five and composed his first piece of music when he was nine years old. He rose to fame during the ’90s with several hit albums and has also lent his vocals to many mainstream Bollywood films.
During his career of 32 years, he has won many international awards, including the Nigar Award, Bolan Academy Award and Graduate Award. His achievements have been acknowledged by MTV, which acknowledged him as Breakthrough Artist of the Year in 2003. He was also the youngest recipient of the Naushad Music Award for Excellence in Music.
In 2001, Adnan received the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award from the prime minister of Pakistan.
His first single was released in 1986, with an English smash hit in the Middle East which went straight to the number one position in its first week. He was 16 at the time and had written and recorded a song for the United Nations and UNICEF called Run For His Life. This was followed by countless other hit singles and albums over the years. Shortly after becoming a sensation, he was invited by a filmmaker to write music for an upcoming film. This opened the doors for him to compose and sing for Hindi films and led to him getting acting offers at the same time. Through his work he has been associated with the greatest names in the Indian film and music industry.
After taking a sabbatical and having undergone a full transformation by losing over 160kg, Adnan made a comeback in April 2007 with the smash hit album, Kisi In.
As a classical concert pianist, Adnan has performed before royalty such as the King of Sweden and King Hussein of Jordan and many important heads of states.
