10 motorists arrested over the weekend
10 arrested during high-density operations in the southern region of the City of Ekurhuleni.
EMPD officers arrested 10 motorists between January 29 to 30 in the southern region of the City of Ekurhuleni.
During high-density operations in Alberton, Thokoza, Katlehong, Germiston, Boksburg, Vosloorus and Zonkizizwe, precinct officers arrested eight male drivers for being intoxicated and two for illegally transporting alcohol.
All Covid-19 protocols were applied and observed during the operations.
On January 29 in Eden Park, Germiston and Katlehong areas, EMPD officers on roving roadblocks on Masakhane Road, Peterson Street and at the Germiston CBD issued 170 traffic fines to motorists, stopped and searched 193 vehicles with 666 passengers, discontinued and impounded one unroadworthy motor vehicle and arrested five intoxicated male drivers.
On January 30 the operation continued in Elsburg, Thokoza, Groeneweider and Eden Park areas.
“Between 4pm and midnight, 18 taverns were visited and found not operating. Officers also arrested three motorists for driving under the influence.
“Officers stopped and searched 208 motor vehicles with 454 passengers. They issued 69 traffic fines and arrested two drivers for transporting alcohol in the Thokoza area,” said Kobeli Mokheseng, EMPD spokesperson.
Eight suspects are facing charges of driving while under the influence and two suspects are facing charges of contravening the Disaster Management Act.
They are expected to appear in the Palm Ridge and Germiston Magistrate’s Courts soon.
