Upcoming artists get a chance to be noticed

Grace Baloyi, Lethu Molekoa and Molalo Nqobi Ramashamba were crowned as winners on Saturday, 24 August to celebrate Women’s Month.

According to John Mabusha, the queen and her princesses will take part in community development campaigns to combat the use of drugs and substance abuse.

“We hosted the beauty contest to encourage girls to stay off the streets and to guide them with life skills,” he said.

The Bushang Recognition Awards aims to shine the spotlight on artists who have not been discovered.

“Initially we planned to host it for our municipality only, but we realised that there are so many other artists in other provinces that needed this confidence boost,” he said.

The competition invited nominees in different categories ranging from poetry, dancing, catering, dance, hip-hop, hairstyling and others.

The awards function will be held at the Weesgerus Holiday Resort outside Modimolle on Saturday 2 November. Well-known celebrities such as local artists, Nelson Makamo, Amogelang Motau and Shibo Molomo, will also attend the event.
