It was later discovered that four of the lions had been killed, with their heads and paws chopped off.

Two other maimed lions were found in the vicinity, but with no missing body parts.

Ngoepe said preliminary investigations suggested the lions might have been poisoned.

He said a pair of bloodstained trousers and sneakers were discovered at the scene of the alleged massacre.

Ngoepe added that the police had no identity of the suspects, and no arrests had, as at Monday, been made.

Anyone with information about the suspects involved in this matter ,may contact Colonel Alpheus Mokale at 082 565 6524, or the crime stop number 08600 10111 or the crime line SMS 32211, or the nearest police station.
