Communications Deputy Minister Pinky Kekana has adopted the paediatric ward at Bela-Bela Hospital.
Kekana is a former resident of Bela-Bela and also Waterberg executive mayor.
She visited the hospital on Mandela Day, Thursday 18 July.
Kekana was accompanied by the incumbent Waterberg District Executive Mayor, Morris Mataboge, and Bela-Bela Mayor, Jeremiah Ngobeni.
The three leaders went on an on-site inspection of operations at the hospital, where they distributed blankets and toys.
Kekana was embraced with ululations and whistles when she declared that she was adopting the Bela-Bela Hospital paediatric ward, which houses several children.
She has promised to make visits to the ward going forward.
The delegation later proceeded to Vingerkraal Combined School, where stationery and school shoes were distributed to needy learners.
USAID and GoogleSA were also in attendance, with the latter conducting basic computer literacy lessons.
Members of the delegation got their hands dirty, giving the school buildings a new coat of paint.
