Modimolle-Mookgophong Mayor Marlene van Staden has expressed delight as a result of the progress made by the municipality with regards to service delivery.

Van Staden, in the company of Councillor Stoffel Seodisa, recently went on an oversight visit, to assess progress at a housing project currently underway at Vaalwater’s Extension 3 and
also at the paving project in Leseding.

This project will see the construction of 150 houses, with half of them expected to be completed at the end of the first phase.

“I was very pleased to see that 35 structures had already been erected, 25 of them had roofs and 40 foundations had been laid,” Van Staden said.

Van Staden said the first recipient to receive her home will be Maria Baloyi, who turned 90 on 18 July, sharing the same birthday with the iconic former President Nelson Mandela.

“I am delighted that this senior citizen will be able to enjoy the full benefits of a house in her lifetime,” she said.

Meanwhile, with regards to the paving project, Van Staden and Seodisa met with the project steering committee and safety officer to get a detailed progress report.

“We were very happy with the progress being made,” she said.

She anticipated that the project should be completed by the end of November.

“The 1,2 km road, which runs between Vaalwater and Leseding, was in a very poor condition and I am elated that the community will soon be able to travel on a proper road,” she said.
