No takers for exams’ R10 000 prizemoney

Bela-Bela High School matric candidate with the best results, Thabo Mothokoa, fell short of earning himself a cool “January blues” R10 000.
At the beginning of the 2019 school term, the school’s headmaster and philanthropist, Lucas Nukeri, put up prizemoney of R10 000 for a learner who could achieve a 75% pass average in all
subjects.
This was on the occasion an end-of-year prize-giving ceremony at Forever Resorts last November.
At the end of it all, Mothokoa achieved a 71% pass average, among these two distinctions in the subjects of History and Tourism.
On Monday 13 January Nukeri said none of the leaners reached the benchmark of 75% in all subjects.
He said the prizemoney remained up for grabs for the Class of 2020, at the unchanged benchmark of a 75% pass in all subjects.
All in all, Nukeri said he was satisfied with the school’s 2019 matric results.
The overall pass rate for the Class of 2019 was 82,6%, comparable to 81,3% in 2018.
