Toll fee increase: This is what a trip to Gauteng will cost
Driving to Gauteng will cost Limpopo residents somewhat more from March this year, as the National Roads Agency (Sanral) has announced a toll fee increase of 6,25% to be implemented from 1 March.

According to notices published in the Government Gazette, the increase will apply to all toll routes and plazas, but exclude e-tolls. The hike in fees is somewhat less than last year’s 6,58%.
For a driver from Modimolle who passes through the Kranskop off-ramp, Carousel and Pumulani toll gates on the N1 highway, a one-way trip will cost R102 (R5,50 more) in toll fees.
The fuel price increase earlier this month adds another unwelcome expenditure to the total cost of visiting the city’s bright lights. If one takes the average fuel consumption of a vehicle at 11 litres per kilometre at a cost of R23,24 per litre for the 120 km trip, the fuel cost is approximately R253, bringing the cost of a one-way trip that includes tolls to R355. If one prefers to sleep in your comfy bed, a return trip will mean R710 out of your already constrained budget.
The pain for the occasional traveller is less than for those who are in the transport business or who need to travel frequently.
From March, the Nyl Plaza toll fees increase to R73,50 (up from R69) and the off-ramp to Modimolle R23 (up from R21,50) for light vehicles, while 8 to 16-ton trucks (class 2) will pay R138 (up from R130). The Kranskop toll gate’s fees will be R57 (R53) for light vehicles and R145 for 8 to 16-ton trucks, while the off-ramp will cost R15,50 (R15) for cars and R42 (R40) for 8 to 16-ton trucks.
The fee at the Carousel toll gate will be R71 (R67 previously) for light vehicles and R190 (R180) for class 2 trucks, while motorists in cars will pay R15,50 (R14,50) at the Pumulani toll gate and class 2 trucks R38 (R36).
The cost at the Zambesi off-ramp will be R14 (R13,50) and at the Stormvoël off-ramp, one will have to fork out R12 (R11).
