
A team representing correctional services and local police stations recently visited several schools in the area as part of a joint awareness campaign. They encouraged learners to stay on the right side of the law.
The team educated learners at Laerskool Vaalwater on cyberbullying and domestic violence. A social worker also explained how someone’s behavior may change. The youngsters were encouraged to refrain from committing criminal acts and the team presented the impact that having a criminal record would have on their careers.
At Solomon Mahlangu High School in Modimolle, the team, which included social workers, continued to strengthen the relationship between the schools and the community. The topics that were discussed included the importance of discipline and punctuality, the dangers of sexual offenses, substance abuse, cyberbullying, and gangsterism. The team explained to the learners and educators the benefit of foster grants.

At Mokolo Primary School in Vaalwater issues such as developing one’s own identity, rights and responsibilities, and cyberbullying were discussed. The children were also warned of the dire effect of drug abuse and to steer clear of dangerous weapons.
The learners at Phagameng High School in Modimolle received more information regarding social grants and foster grants. The children were encouraged to be punctual and to choose a good company. They were also educated on how to deal with sexual offenses.
The team showed the learners what attire an inmate at correctional services would wear.
