Nigerian-linked Ononogbu new Bafana Bafana addition

Limpopo’s Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila FC is hogging the headlines; all because of the selection of one of the team’s players into the Bafana Bafana squad.

Tonyedikachi Nkosinathi Ononogbu has raised eyebrows in that he is arguably the very first soccer player with Nigerian

parentage to have qualified to be selected into Bafana Bafana.

The player’s father is a Nigerian, while his mother is South African.

The left winger has, in actual fact, been in the news with Absa Premiership campaigners, Supersport United FC and Baroka FC, said to be chasing his signature.

Now South Africa’s under-23 head coach, Dan Notoane, has also identified value in the Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila FC sensation, ahead of the African Nations Championship (Chan) Euthopia 2020.

It is anticipated the inclusion of Ononogbu in the Bafana Bafana make-up could light up the Chan championships, which have somewhat been looked down upon by many soccer enthusiasts at home and the broader African continent.

An indirect link is that the Nigerian Football Association was unable to bring its under-23 World Champions to a previous Chan tournament in South Africa, because every single of the players
was on trials in various parts of the European continent.

Many of the latter players now ply their trade in the big leagues of Europe.
