Family craft: Make an enchanting fairy glow house
This adorable fairy glow house is not only easy to make but looks adorable in a child’s bedroom or used as a night light.
If your child loves fairies, they’ll love helping mom or dad make this cute fairy house lamp. All you need to get started are a few basic and cost-effective supplies – one middle-size jar, thick cardboard, paper clay, aluminium foil, hot glue, and acrylic paint for the finishing touches of this fairy house. For the light source, you can use glow sticks or an LED tealight candle.
Step-by-step instructions
- Select a medium-sized jar that has a matching lid.
- Clean and dry your chosen jar.
- Cut a circle out of the cardboard and glue the jar onto the board, base first.
- Cut other shapes from the cardboard to use as a base to mould the fairy house finishes.
- Help your child apply one layer of paper clay on the jar and mould the door, the windows, and the finishing touches (mushrooms, flowers, chimney, etc).
- Be sure to make the door and windows big enough to let the light shine through.
- Build the roof on the jar lid.
- For the shape of the roof, you can use thin foil, and also for the shape of your mushrooms and chimney.
- Let your child paint the fairy house with acrylic paint.
- Place an LED tealight candle or snap glow stick inside through the lid (roof).
