Slain rapper "Flabba", of the group Skwatta Kamp, had a premonition of his death, his childhood friend Sbusiso Mfusi has revealed.

According to Mfusi, Flabba, whose real name is Nkululeko Habedi, recently wrote a song with DJ Mbuso in which he sings “I’ve got a wife that’s got a knife and (wants to) kill me.” The song is yet to be released.

Flabba was stabbed to death in the early hours of Sunday morning, allegedly by his girlfriend, Sindiwe Precious Manqele. She appeared in the Alexandra Magistrate’s Court on Monday, but was not asked to plead.

“This year was supposed to be his year,” Mfusi said. Friends of the slain hip hop artist, who live in the same street in Alexandra township as Flabba had, said he had been protective towards women.

“See us, we like fighting. The thing of fighting with girls, he rebuked us a lot on that,” said his long-time friend and neighbour, Stompie Lekanyane. Shiamane Ramapulana said he had known Habedi “forever”.

“I used to do my laundry with him,” he said, adding that Habedi would never beat a woman. “He was a great guy, a family man and I don’t believe he was someone who would raise a hand to a woman or anyone, but especially women.

“That’s the guy I know. Anyone other than this one I don’t know, is not the person I lived with.” Mfusi said although his friend seemed aggressive, he was kind.

“I know a lot of people, when you look at his face you would think he was a violent person. He was never violent.” Mfusi said Flabba would like his fans to remember him through his music.

Alexandra was yesterday decked out with posters of the ANC, SA Communist Party, the SA National Civic Organisation and Cosatu for the memorial service the organisations are to hold for the rapper. The service will be at Alexsan Kopano Centre, Alexandra. Habedi’s funeral service will be on Sunday at Alexandra stadium. He will be buried at Westpark Cemetery.
