A sprint Thriller in PE

Trainer Tara Laing, jockey Raymond Danielson and owners Ingrid and Markus Jooste could share in a feature double at Fairview on Friday.

Unannounced is unbeaten in four races in Port Elizabeth but will face a stern test from Copper Parade in today's Listed East Cape Sprint Cup over 1200m at Fairview.

They team up with Unannounced in the Listed East Cape Sprint over 1200m and a race later with Crown Of Gold in the Non-Black Type Lakeside Handicap over 2400m.

Unannounced won his first six races when trained by Charles Laird and then went off the boil. He was eventually sent to Laing in Port Elizabeth and has since reeled off four wins in a row.

Unannounced will face his toughest test to date when he comes up against Copper Parade. The seven-year-old from the Yvette Bremner yard has been contesting the top sprint races in the country with some success. He won the Grade 1 Computaform Sprint over 1000m at Turffontein last year.

He was beaten into second place by Fly By Night in the Grade 1 Mercury Sprint over 1200m at Clairwood but did disappoint in his last start when contesting the Grade 1 Cape Flying Championship where he is reported to have taken no interest. Now, almost eight years old, Copper Parade might be feeling his age.

However, if he is in a running mood for jockey Gavin Lerena, it should be a thrilling race.

To spice up local interest, crowd darling Yoshie is also in the line-up. She is one of the most popular runners in the Eastern Cape and there will be many a punter who will be rooting for the four-year-old filly, who is already a 12-time winner from 22 starts.

Crown Of Gold is one of the best stayers in the country and despite having 62.5kg on his back, the six-year-old son of Silvano should prove too good for stablemate Drill Sargeant in the Lakeside Handicap.
