De Kock looks to make it number 10

Trainer Mike de Kock will be looking for a record 10th Sansui Summer Cup victory at Turffontein on Saturday.

His nine wins are already a record. This year De Kock will be relying on Irish import Flying The Flag and overseas-bred fillies Ahlaam and The Centenary.

While he feels the fillies can both run a place, as TAB are paying out six places this year, De Kock believes his best hopes lie with Flying The Flag, who has won a Grade 2 race at home. He has only raced once in this country and that was in the Peermont Emperors Palace Charity Mile over 1600 on October 31.

“I thought he ran very well last time, I’m more than happy with that performance. I’ve seen a big change in him since then and he has improved a lot. He is certainly not a 25-1 shot.

“He’s a smart horse. This is only his second run in the country and I know there is still more improvement to come. He will be even better over 2000m and I know he is good enough to be in the top four,” said De Kock.

Unfortunately he has landed No 17 draw but will be ridden by a top jockey in Anthony Delpech.
