Yalezo aims for the “Hollywoods”

Twenty-one-year-old Yalezo Njuguna from Alberton, Johannesburg’, who studied at the University of Johannesburg, dreams of becoming an internationally-acclaimed content producer.

“I would watch music videos as a child, thinking that the singers were magicians that could act, dance, fly and do all sorts of things. I found them fascinating and wanted to make that magic myself through choreography and content,” says Yalezo.

He saw a poster advertising the M-Net Magic in-Motion Academy at his university and applied immediately.

“The whole process was very intensive, and I really didn’t expect it to be as long as it was, but it allowed me to experience the whole recruitment method.

“I really believe that this is an avenue that will expose me to all the things I need to learn about film and I’m looking forward to producing my own work,” adds Yalezo.

He has always shown passion and enthusiasm for film and music. In fact, his ambitions and goals haven’t changed much since he was 10. He dreams of being nominated for an Emmy or Oscar award, and of producing the next level of African content.

“I want the Academy to ground me and my expectations, as well as providing the ‘do’s and dont’s in the industry,” he adds.

Yalezo believes that one can always get better at what they do, as there’s always something one can learn.

He keeps fit by exercising regularly, and has played water polo at a provincial level.
