Two dead and 15 injured in Vosloo accident this morning
The intersection between Barry Marais Drive and the R103 (Old Heidelburg Road) was the scene of a horrific crush between what EMPD media spokesperson Kobedi Mokheseng described as a loaded taxi and an Isuzu bakkie.

The accident happened just after 5.30 am this (Sunday) morning and left both the driver of the taxi and the bakkie dead and 15 others injured. The passenger in the bakkie survived and were rushed to the nearby Thelle Mogoerane Hospital in Vosloorus with other passengers for treatment.
However, a female passenger with severe injuries was airlifted by paramedics to the Chris Hani Hospital in Soweto. Kathorus MAIL has been reliably informed that among the injured was a male prison warder who was on his way to work at the nearby Boksburg prison and a hospital nurse.
According to William Ntladi, the media officer for the Ekurhuleni Disaster and Emergency Management Services (DEMS), the rescue squad responded swiftly to the scene and found the two vehicles in a T-bone crash. “They discovered two lifeless bodies that were declared dead on the scene, two patients with critical injuries, and thirteen others who had sustained serious but stable injuries. One of the critically injured patient was airlifted to hospital and all others were road transported by ambulances to various hospitals around the City of Ekurhuleni for further medical care”, explained Ntladi.
It is alleged that the taxi with fifteen occupants including the driver, was from Vosloorus destined to Dunswart station in Boksburg while the Pick-up was driving direction Heidelberg on R103. Both drivers are amongst the casualties.
The cause of the accident is still undetermined and the intersection had to be closed for traffic till all the relevant investigations are conducted. the early hours of this (Sunday) morning.
