Collect your ID from home affairs to benefit from municipal services
The Department of Home Affairs (DHA) is currently experiencing a huge backlog of unclaimed IDs nationally, and the City of Ekurhuleni is no exception.
There are over 20 000 uncollected identity documents at different home affairs offices in Ekurhuleni.

Senior government officials said uncollected IDs hamper the municipality’s service delivery programmes because residents without IDs are unable to register for municipal programmes and services. These include applying for RDP government housing or to collect their title deeds when they are available for collection.
Other services residents are likely forgoing due to lack of an ID include enlisting on the city’s indigent database, where they are entitled to free water, free electricity and indigent rebates to assessment rates.
Residents of Ekurhuleni who have not collected their IDs are urged to visiting the two home affairs branches to collect the IDs. Ekurhuleni is providing transport to elderly residents, people with a disability, learners and military veterans.
