A tip-off from the members of community resulted in three Marathon informal settlement residents being apprehended by the EMPD Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU) last Friday, just after 8am.
The trio was allegedly found in possession of 15 packets of nyaope, over 2.5kg of dagga in a sack, 174 pieces of rock, 545 small newspaper “packets” of dagga, and 536 ziplock bags of dagga.
“The DEU members responded promptly and raided the shack where the stash of narcotics, with an estimated street value of R70 000, was believed to be,” said Kobeli Mokheseng, acting spokesperson for the EMPD.
“Three male suspects in the shack were arrested and over R3 000 cash, suspected to be the proceeds of drug dealing, was confiscated.”
The suspects, aged between 22 and 28, were detained at the Germiston Police Station and charged with possession of and dealing in illicit substances.
They are expected to appear in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court soon.
