Hard-working detective puts another suspect behind bars

Communications officer at Volsoorus Police Station Capt Piet Rossouw said Nkosi is one of the most hard-working and dedicated detectives he has ever worked with.

As a result of her hard work and dedication, Vosloorus Police Station-based detective Const Nomsa Nkosi successfully closed another case this month.

The suspect received a 15-years prison sentence.

In Nkosi’s recent case (robbery aggravating), the complainant, Mzwandile Sekwane, was on his way to see his girlfriend in Dlomo Street behind Naledi Mall on July 7, 2018, at around 8pm.

While he was walking along Ken Gampu Street, two men joined him on the way and walked with him. The suspect to the complainant’s left was known to him as Mandla Tlale (33).

Tlale pointed a firearm at Sekwane and demanded his cellphone. Fearing for his life, Sekwane gave Tlale his cellphone valued at R1 500. Tlale and his partner (who was unknown to the complainant) ran away with Sekwane’s cellphone.

Later that day Sekwane opened a case at Vosloorus Police Station against Tlale and the other suspect.

Nkosi said the case was immediately assigned to her for investigation.

“On August 23, 2018, I reported for duty at around 4am for suspect tracing. One of the suspects we were going to trace on the day was Tlale. I was busy doing my investigation until around 7.15am when I received information on the whereabouts of the suspect. I went there and arrested him,” said Nkosi.

She said the suspect was taken to appear in the Vosloorus Regional Court on August 24 where he was found guilty of robbery aggravating.

“He was sentenced to 15 years in prison on February 8, 2019,” said Nkosi.

About her success in solving the crime, Nkosi said she is very excited.

“It always makes me feel good if I do something good for the community of Vosloorus.”

Communications officer at Volsoorus Police Station Capt Piet Rossouw said Nkosi is one of the most hard-working and dedicated detectives he has ever worked with.

“Even the station commander said he is happy to have a detective of Nkosi’s calibre serving at the station.”

Rossouw pleaded with the community of Vosloorus to stop walking around with their valuable assets alone at night.

“But I hope this sentence will serve as an eye-opener to other members of the community who are still thinking of committing a crime. The police will leave no stone unturned to bring them to book,” said Rossouw.
