Moleleki spaza shop robbed R2 000, suspect arrested

Katlehong police arrested an armed robber following a robbery at a spaza shop in Moleleki Extension Two on March 1 around 11am.

Police received a complaint about a business robbery committed by an unknown African male. The suspect robbed a 32-year-old shop owner of R2 000, three cellphones and six bath soaps before he fled in an unknown direction on foot.

Katlehong SAPS corporate communications officer Const Sivenkosi Mtwa said on arrival police interviewed the owner to get the description of the suspect. Later that day Crime Prevention Unit members noticed a suspect fitting the description while patrolling the area.

The suspect was cornered and arrested on the spot; police confirmed that he was in possession of the firearm which he possibly used to commit the crime.

“The firearm recovered will be taken to ballistic to have it checked if it was not used to commit other crimes.
“The suspect is charged with three charges, business robbery, possession of an unlicensed firearm and live ammunition,” said Mtwa.

The suspect will soon appear in Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court.
